Boulder Opal Sterling Maple Branch 14KY Necklace by Rebecca of BNOX

A view into a landscape is a composition of this Boulder Opal. It is gathered in a sterling bezel held upon sterling cast maple branch. Primarily, the Boulder Opal radiates aqua blues, but luminous flashes of light purple, green and hints of orange lay upon a lower layer of ironstone matrix . Above, the tiny luminous mountain range (or lake, river or whatever your eye imagines), a tan swath of matrix creates a canoe shape of the opal. The bronze and nutmeg browns are the natural 'mother stone or matrix" from which the opal was mined. Leaving matrix in the final cut not only creates interest and depth of color, but contrast to the color within.
You will notice the variety of opal colors and appearances from the Dowdy Mine. They are surprisingly broad. Choosing a small selection for Joanne and Kevin Dowdy is wildly challenging. The Dowdy Mine is in Australia and is 3.5 hours from a town of 14 people!
The maple branch is from my neighborhood here in Pepin Wisconsin. It has been molded an cast in sterling silver. There is a drop of 14KYon one end where the stem ends and meets the chain.
The chain is a "long short textured chain. the width of the chain is 2.5mm.

The sterling maple branch measures 2" long x 3/8" x 3/16"
The length of the necklace is 22.5", however with the taut arc of the sterling maple branch it hangs more like a 20" necklace.
