Primarily, the Boulder Opal radiates aqua blues and a few sneaky flashes of lime green. The bronze and nutmeg browns are the natural "mother stone or matrix" from which the opal was mined. Leaving the matrix not only creates interest and depth of color, but contrast the color within. It is painterly.
The variety of opal colors and appearances from the Australian Dowdy Mine are surprisingly broad. Choosing a small selection from Joanne and Kevin Dowdy is wildly challenging and takes me forever to whittle down from the $10000000.00 that I'd prefer to spend at their opal stone show booth!
